Research Abstract |
It has been worried about the relationship of endocrine disrupting chemicals (environmental hormones) with the increases of oligospermia, sterility, testicular and mammary tumors and endometriosis. An administration of diethylstilbestrol to pregnant women for the purpose of prevention of abortion induced clear cell adenocarcinoma of the vagina, aplasia of the uterus and the testicular atrophy in young people. In the present study, we investigated the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals including phytoestrogens on the incidence and development of uterine adenomyosis and mammary carcinomas in SHN mice, which was known to develop these disorders spontaneously, by the promotion of Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research from Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (# 14580562). The project has now been in progress, because the breeding and experiment has been going side by side in only our institute. However, the interesting finding has been derived from the present project, i.e. an inhibitor of the development of vascular endothelium reduces the development of endometrial blood vessels resulting in a lowered incidence of uerine adenomyosis in the SHN mice.
