Research Abstract

1. Making a guideline for the management and human resource development (M&HRD) of the non-profit organizations (NPOs) engaged in mental health activities.
Yadokari no Sato (Hermit Crab's Home), which is a pioneering social rehabilitation NPO, was selected as a model. It was tried to transfer the experience in mental health to the field of intractable disease.
2. Producing a textbook for M&HRD of the NPOs engaged in the intractable disease care in communities.
People involved in the intractable disease in Shizuoka prefecture observed similar activities in Tokyo so as to share experiences in advanced communities.
Conducting a study on M&HRD of the NPOs fighting against tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.
A national study was conducted for the Unti-Tuberculosis Women's Association. The findings were reported in a periodic publication of UTWA.
4. Conducting a study on M&HRD of NPOs in UK.
2003 Invited Professor Hunt as a special lecturer at Univ. of Shizuoka.
2004 Attended an conference held in UK to report Japan's present situation of NPO.
Interviewed NPO people involved in UK. Sent a commentary about Japan to IAPO's (International Alliance of Patients' Organizations) Review on Patient-Centred Healthcare.
5. Conducting an action research to improve M&HRD of NPOs in the field of health, welfare and nursing in Shizuoka.
Held Open Forum seven times for the intractable disease community care.
Made a proposal on M&HRD of the support center for the intractable disease in Shizuoka prefecture. A network of more than 500 individuals has been established, and a new NPO was born.
Compared to UK where NPO activities are well advanced in various fields, Japan's NPOs in the field of health, welfare and nursing are yet in an initial stage. It is further necessary to promote study/research concerning system (contribution, subsidy and other procedures to be simplified), M&HRD of NPOs.
