Research Abstract

本研究では、メンタルトレーニングによって脳のどこがどのように活動していくか空間分解能に優れたfMRIと時間分解能に優れた事象関連電位(ERP)と呼ばれる脳波を用いて調べることを目的としている。平成14年度までは、メンタルトレーニングの要素であるサイキアップトレーニングのメカニズムを明らかにするために、「動機づけ」について実験を行った。平成15年度は、横断的実験を行い、スポーツ経験者群と非スポーツ経験者群において運動を実際に行った時とその運動をイメージした時において、fMRIを用いて脳活動を比較した。その結果、運動をイメージした場合には、スポーツ経験者群のみにおいて、運動野の活動を観測することができた。同様の実験は脳波の実験においても得られた。
平成16年度では、さらに、縦断的な実験を行い、イメージトレーニングの効果について脳波を用いて検証を行った。7日間のイメージトレーニングを行わせその前後の脳活動について、a)イメージトレーニング群と、b)イメージトレーニングを行わない統制群で比較したところ、トレーニング群は7日間のトレーニングによって運動野に相当する領域での活動が高まったが、統制群では変化が見られなかった。またイメージの想起能力を測定するイメージパフォーマンステストにおいてもトレーニング前には両群の差は見られなかったが、トレーニング後に有意にトレーニング群の方が高いパフォーマンスを示した。さらに興味深いことに、トレーニング群では、トレーニング後に運動野の活動が高まるとともに、運動の実行を抑制する領域(Negative Motor Area)に相当する部分での活動も高まっていた。このことよりメンタルトレーニングを行うことによって脳の活動に大きな変化が生じることが示され、メンタルトレーニングの有効性が示された。
