Research Abstract

近年,ナノテクノロジーやマイクロマシンに関連した,MEMS(Micro Electro Mechanical Systems)およびμ-TAS (μ-Total Analysis System)における流動現象が注目されるようになり,超微細スケール流れへの感心が高まっている.たとえば,超微細流路では,静電気力,表面張力,壁面との濡れや分子間引力の効果が顕著になってくるが,従来のNavier-Stokes方程式に基づく流体力学ではこれらを正しく記述することができない.微小スケール流動では未知の現象と未解決の問題が数多く残され、これが新技術創生や生産効率向上の大きな障壁となっている.我国の技術立国としての回生には,ナノ・マイクロスケール境界領域における技術的難問題を克服するための新しい流体工学理論の枠組みが必要である.
本年度は,ナノ・マイクロ流体工学の学術基盤として、数値モデリング手法とシミュレーションコード(電気化学反応を伴う微小流れ,マイクロ放電,生体高分子)を完成させ,民間企業との共同研究を行い,数値解析結果と実験結果とを定量的に比較検討した.その結果,リチウムイオン二次電池,プラズマディスプレイパネルの数値設計およびDNAの基本的流動機構の解明がなされ、内外の専門学会で多数の研究報告を行った。また,日本機械学会年次大会において,学術セッション「バイオ・ナノ流動ダイナミクス」をオーガナイズし,英文専門書籍を三冊編集して、当該研究分野の発展とその先導に尽力した.協同組織委員長として、米国機械学会主催の5th International Symposium on Computational Technologies for Fluid/Thermal/Chemical Systems with Industrial ApplicationsをSan Diegoで開催し、国際的な学術活動を展開することができた。
