Research Abstract

本研究プロジェクトでは、昨年度に引き続き、刑務所の民営化に関する理論研究や実証研究を拠り所に、リバタリアニズム理論や民営化理論の再構成を目指してきた。また、現代正義論の文脈の中でリバタリアニズム(自由至上主義)思想を捉え、それを理論的・具体的に検証し、その可能性を探究してきた。リバタリアニズム陣営内における論争を要約・検証し、民営化・規制緩和などを推進する「小さな政府」論・自由主義思想の理論的妥当性を分析し、それらの理論的再構成を試みてきた。刑務所の民営化をケース・スタディーとして取り上げ、自由主義理論が具体的にどのように生かされているのか、その有効性あるいは問題点を明らかにするために、研究に励んできた。
刑務所の民営化に踏み切った国の事例を参照しつつ、その経験に関する情報や従来の研究成果を収集・分析・解釈し、その成果を、学会発表、学会などにおける交流、そして出版活動を通して広めることを目的として活動を行ってきた。
本研究プロジェクトの成果の一つとして、日本のある出版社から、リバタリアニズムの諸相に関する単著を出す話が決まったこと、また『リバタリアニズム読本』(仮題)の編集者からの執筆依頼を受けたこと、の二つが挙げられる。そのために、本研究プロジェクトの成果を、単著・共著の形で出すことにし、積極的に執筆に取り掛かっている。同時に、研究論文を英日両言語で書きつつある。また、一人の同僚と共に、イギリスの中堅の出版社であるアシュゲートと出版契約を提携し、『Asia Pacific and Human Rights : A Global Political Economy Perspective』も近刊の予定である。
