Research Abstract

1 観測手法の開発および新規観測
(1)電離層の研究のために南北両極域に展開されているSuperDARNレーダーを利用し、電離層定常観測中にも流星エコーを利用した中間圏観測を行う手法を実用化レベルにまで改良した。
(2)地理的特異点である南極点において、全天イメージャーによる大気光観測を当該研究期間の極夜期に行い、前例のない大気波動の良質データを取得した。
2 中間圏界面領域の風速・温度場の解析
(1)昭和基地におけるMFレーダーとナトリウムライダーで観測された中間圏・下部熱圏データをもとに、成層圏と中間圏・下部熱圏の現象の関連について調べた。未曾有の成層圏突然昇温現象の起こった2002年は成層圏のみならず、その上部大気でも大きく前後の年とは風速・温度場が異なっており、大気大循環のパターンが広い高度域において特異な振舞いを示したことが明らかになった。
(2)上記のレーダー・ライダーデータをもとに、南極域冬期の大気潮汐波の解析を行った。周期12時間の成分の詳細解析を行った他、周期6,8時間といった短周期の波動の活動の様子が明らかとなった。
(3)北極における流星レーダー観測データをもとに風速・温度変動成分を抽出し、重力波伝播特性解析の新しい手法として確立させることができた。
