Research Abstract

泥炭湿地林において、植物の成長、枯死、微生物による分解の過程がつくりだす、微環境の分布と動態のありかたが、共存可能な種数を規定していることを証明することを目指し、インドネシアの泥炭湿地林でのフィールド調査と、理論的研究を行った。
私は昨年度までの研究によって既に、共同研究者の嶋村鉄也(京都大学大学院アジア・アフリカ地域研究研究科)とともに、エレベーションダイナミクスという概念を提出しているが、今年度の成果として、その過程をさらに詳しく、定量的に記述する基礎理論と、実測値が得られた。
スマトラの泥炭湿地林において、葉および材の分解、リター量、根の成長量、リター層の乾重を、立地ごとに測定した。これらと、既に先行研究によるデータが公表されているリター層および泥炭層の呼吸量を組み込んで、泥炭の増減を記述する数理モデルを構築した。それは次のような形になる。

ここで、m_Aは好気的条件下の泥炭量、sはリター層で呼吸消費される有機物の割合、p_Lはリター供給量、k_Lはリターの分解定数、m_<LO>はリター層有機物量の初期値、p_Aは泥炭体積あたりの根の生産量、bは泥炭の容積重、m_Cは嫌気的条件下の泥炭量、k_A、k_Cはそれぞれ好気的、嫌気的条件下での呼吸量である。
林内の多点での測定値を用いて解析した結果、泥炭の増減には、数メートル単位での空間的異質性があること、このような異質性が森林の動態や多種共存に多大な影響を与えていることが明らかになった。
