Outline of Annual Research Achievements

藻類からの水素とメタンへの変換に着目し、様々な環境に由来する藻類バイオマスの獲得と、それからの水素とメタンへの変換特性および変換率の改善のための手法を検討した。40日間のフォトバイオリアクターの培養によって、いずれもScenedesmus属が優勢な混合藻類コンソーシアが形成され、集積された。これらを発酵原料として使用したところ、中温と高温の条件で、いずれも水素の生産は困難であったが、高温の方がより水素を消費するメタン生成菌の抑制が認められた。また、pHを酸性に調整することで水素生産の改善が確認された。また、環境中から採取した藻類バイオマスの由来も、水素およびメタン収率に大きく影響することが明らかとなった。3種類の異なる採取源の藻類バイオマスを原料として発酵を行ったところ、水素収率においては最大2枚程度の差異がサンプル間で認められた。メタン収率においても、その差異は1.5枚程度であった。このように水素・メタン両方において、構成される混合藻類バイオマスの種類がエネルギー回収率に影響することが示された。
次に、これらの水素およびメタン回収率を改善するための物理科学的前処理を検討した。水素発酵に対する前処理の影響は次の通りであった。上述の3種類の前処理と無処理の4種類のバイオマスを比較したところ、いずれの前処理も溶解性の有機物画分を増大させることができ、特に電気分解において、無処理と比較して1.3枚程度の増大が認められた。発酵後の水素収率もその可溶化の程度に応じて増大する傾向を見せ、電気分解において38 mL/g-VSの収率を記録し、無処理の場合の4倍であった。前処理はメタンの生成に対してもポジティブな影響を及ぼした。最大で3倍以上の収率の改善が可能であった。
