Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は,特に,生物の種の半数以上に見られるきわめて普遍的なプロセスである変態が,前年度に作り上げた人工進化環境で可能であるかどうかを調べた.具体的には,各個体の生涯において,個体発生プロセスをいったん停止して,第一の仮想環境(たとえば水中)での移動距離を評価し,次に個体発生を再開し,成体となってから第二の仮想環境(たとえば陸上)での移動距離を評価するというものである.進化実験の結果,変態が進化しうることが示された.進化試行に応じて,多様な進化シナリオを観察できたが,水中では流線型の体構造をもって体をくねらせて泳ぎ,陸上では足を使って跳ねるように移動するというのが,普遍的に見られたシナリオであった.ソフトロボットのデザインに関わる知見も得ることができた.
また,研究の発展として,体構造については,あらかじめ人間が想像力にまかせて自由にデザインし,それを用いた行動の制御のみを人工進化を用いて生成する手法を検討した.この方法の特徴は,体構造と行動の両者を進化させる場合に比べて,大幅に計算量を選らすことができることである.これによって,インタラクティブに体構造を試しながら,ロボットをデザインすることが可能となった.このモデルを,ソフトロボットで必要となる分散的な制御への適用を検討した.そして,分析の結果,生物の動きをつかさどる渦運動的なダイナミクスを発見できた.
