Outline of Annual Research Achievements

東海・神岡間長基線ニュートリノ実験(T2K)は、ミューオンニュートリノ・電子ニュートリノ転換現象の発見を第一目標に掲げ、2009年に開始された研究である。2011年には、ミューオンニュートリノ・電子ニュートリノ転換現象を示唆する状況を捉え、2013年6月にはついに発見を公表するに至った。上記発見を踏まえ、他の研究グループが成しえなかった、三世代存在するニュートリノの混ざり具合いの精密測定、ひいてはT2K研究グループの発見以前には足掛かりすら存在しなかった、レプトンのCP対称性の破れの探索に挑戦していくため、更なる実験データの蓄積を行うと同時に、実験の系統的不定性を理解しつくし、極小化することに努力を傾注している。特に、ニュートリノを生み出すπ粒子やK粒子等が陽子ビームと炭素標的の衝突によって生成される過程を詳細に調べることにより、ニュートリノ量等の予測精度を向上することに成功し、実験感度の向上がなされた。現在稼働中の実験結果の向上に加えて、T2K実験に限らず、将来の長基線ニュートリノ研究での活用も期待される新規ニュートリノ測定装置である、液体アルゴンタイムプロジェクションチェンバーの開発を行い、測定装置実用化に向けた、重要要素(電荷信号読み出しシステム、高電圧印加システム、光信号測定システム、粒子識別ソフトウエア)の開発も行った。得られた成果は学術専門誌へ投稿し、国内外の学会、研究会で発表された。
