Outline of Annual Research Achievements

海外野外調査では、チェコにて3個体標本(M. acervorum)を得た。国内では本州から九州にて約30種350コロニーのアリ巣から約40個体の標本を得た。うち九州で得た個体は、従来関東に分布するM. kubotaiであった。本種と同様の生態を持ち、広域分布するM. sapporensisとは棲み分けており、今後同地内での関係解明が期待される。
化学分析では、似た生態を持ちつつ片やアリと敵対を、片や融和を示す2種(M. tetramoriiと未記載種)に関し、1週間アリと接触させた個体と隔離した個体を用意。この二処理群間で、アリ由来の成分保持能力を比較した。結果、前者は隔離前後ともにアリ由来成分を持たず、後者は隔離前後の双方でアリ由来成分を保持した。これより、M. tetramoriiは元々アリ由来成分の保持能力が低いこと、本属内において種間で化学擬態能力の優劣の存在が示唆された。
分類学的研究では、日本産種総説を完成させるため形態情報を調べた。多数標本に関して後脚、メス産卵管、オス生殖器を観察した。特にオスは生殖器に付随する骨片を観察した。その結果、日本産種の骨片形態は4タイプあり、これは海外産種でも分類に有用な形質と考えられた。
分子系統解析では、これまでのmtDNA解析済み標本を用いて核DNA解析を行った。そして、mt解析との比較を行った所、前者で単系統群を形成した九州以北種群のうちM. tetramoriiのみ東洋区種群に組み込まれた。本種は形態も他の九州以北種群とは異質で、その起源を他の日本産種と異にすると考えられる。また、核解析ではヨーロッパ種群が東洋区種群と姉妹関係になった。これは、日本の九州以北種群＋北米種群との近縁性を示唆したmt解析結果とは異なるが、別に行った別領域の核DNAに基づく解析は、mt解析の結果を踏襲した。
