Outline of Annual Research Achievements

長鎖β-グルカンおよびゼオライト鋳型炭素(ZTC)を用いて、ZTC上でのβ-グルカンの吸着および加水分解反応について解析を行った。β-グルカン(分子量3600g/mol、直径1.1nm)の吸着実験を行ったところ、ZTCのミクロ孔(直径1.1nm)の内部にβ-グルカンが吸着することが分かった。β-グルカンとZTCの高い親和性は、疎水的な相互作用によって引き起こされることと、グルカンとZTCのミクロ孔の大きさがフィットしていることに起因している。次に吸着条件の検討を行ったところ、1gのZTCに対して0.8gのβ-グルカンが吸着できることが分かった。これは、他の炭素材料の2.6倍以上の吸着量であり、ZTCが多量の基質を内部に取り込み、その後効率的に加水分解できる可能性を示唆している。そこで実際に吸着したβ-グルカンの加水分解を行い、グルコースを収率72%で合成できることを実証した。以上の成果はカリフォルニア大学バークレー校のAlexander Katz教授らとの共同研究によるものであり、査読付き原著論文として発表した。
高いグルカン吸着能を示すZTCのミクロ孔構造を維持しつつ、触媒活性サイトである含酸素官能基を多量に導入することができれば、更に高活性な加水分解触媒になると期待できる。そこで、温和な酸化処理法である過酸化水素処理をZTCに施したところ、ミクロ孔構造を崩壊させることなく、含酸素官能基量を2.2倍まで増大させることができた。酸化処理したZTCをβ-グルカンの加水分解反応に用いたところ、グルコース収率は85%となり、元のZTCを越える触媒活性を賦与することに成功した。本成果は、研究代表者がAlexander Katz教授の下で行ったものであり、現在査読付き原著論文ならびに国際会議にて発表予定である。
