Outline of Annual Research Achievements

これまで得られた分子データを用いてシリホソハネカクシ亜科の簡易な系統樹を作成した。本亜科に含まれる全5族を網羅する初めての分子系統樹であり、結果は同亜科の単系統性を否定し、キノコハネカクシ族とその他4族が含まれるクレードの2つに大別された。これは初年度に作成した形態形質を用いた系統樹と一致するが、今回作成した系統樹は16Sと18Sの2領域のみを用いた予備的なものであることから、分類体系を変更するためにはより詳細な研究が求められる。
本年度は化石を用いた古生物学的研究で多大な成果を上げることができた。特筆すべきはシロアリ(アリ)と生活していた可能性の高いヒゲブトハネカクシを世界最古の社会寄生の例として報告した研究であり、成果は「Nature Communications」誌に掲載された。また、甲虫目の中でも所属が不明なヤコブソンムシの中生代初となる化石を発見し、本科の形態進化の遅さを考察するとともに、ハネカクシ上科との系統的な関連性について議論した。本成果はインパクトファクターの高い「Gondwana Research」誌上で発表された。また、キノコの子実体を餌として利用するオオキバハネカクシを中生代の琥珀中として初めて記載し、保存されていた口器形態から、本亜科が白亜紀の時点で既に菌食性を獲得していた可能性を呈示した。本成果は菌類と昆虫との相互作用が生じた起源を議論した数少ない研究例となった。さらに、琥珀中で最古となるシリホソハネカクシを発表するなど、満足できる研究成果が得られた。これら一連の研究は、ハネカクシ上科ならびにハネカクシ各亜科の進化史を考えるうえで極めて重要なものとなることは疑いようがない。
