Outline of Annual Research Achievements

代表者はこれまで高温超伝導体BSCCO結晶の固有ジョセフソン接合を利用したTHz波発振素子の詳細な温度分布測定をSiCのPhoto-Luminescence発光強度の温度依存性を利用して行ってきた。しかし、この方法では空間分解能が微結晶の粒径により制限され、数 μm程度が限界であった。そこでPL発光を生じるZnO薄膜を利用することによって、より高分解能な素子温度分布観測を試みた。具体的な薄膜育成方法は、ZnO薄膜をPLD(Pulse Laser Deposition)装置を利用してサファイア基盤表面に成長させる。結果、極めて高空間分解能かつ温度に敏感なPL発光を生じるZnO薄膜の育成に成功し、最適な成膜条件の同定した。
さらに本年度は、新たな試みとしてディスク型素子の中央に穴を空けた環状リング素子を作成しその発振特性観測を試みた。アンテナ工学の分野ではこの構造のパッチアンテナ特性について少なからぬ注目が寄せられ、様々な研究がなされてきた。その特徴を例として挙げれば、同一の共鳴周波数を最低次のモードで得るためにはディスク型のものと比較して面積が小さくて済むため、密集型のアレイ構造に利用可能である。さらにモード分離は外形と内径の比に依存するため、これを操作することにより共鳴周波数の同調が可能となる。しかしながら環状リング構造を用いた高温超伝導体THz波発振素子についての理論研究はあるものの実験的な試みはなされていない。そこで実際に素子を作成することでその特性を精査した。作成方法はこれまでのメタルマスクを用いた素子作製方法では困難なため、フォトリソグラフィー・パターニング装置を利用した。これにより電流・電圧特性および素子構造の高い再現性を有する素子の作製プロセスを確立することができた。
