Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度は、現在の宇宙の加速膨張を説明する一つの手だてとして注目される拡張型重力理論に対し、空間勾配展開法を適用することにより、隠れた重力理論の性質を明らかにする研究を行った。拡張型重力理論の代表格として知られるスカラー・テンソル理論、その中でも特に、重力場とスカラー場の方程式が2階までの微分方程式に従う一般論である Horndeski 理論に注目する。この理論の1つの大きな特徴として、スカラー場と重力場の運動項の間に結合が存在する点が挙げられ、これにより宇宙膨張に際して宇宙の非等方性が増大する可能性がある。
空間的に一様だが、非等方性が存在するような宇宙を考え、空間勾配展開法を用いることにより、宇宙の非等方性のふるまいを解析した。その結果、比較的簡単なモデルの場合には「宇宙無毛仮説」の予言と一致し、宇宙の非等方性は指数関数的に減衰することがわかった。一方、スカラー場と重力場の運動項の間に結合があるような場合には、一般的には有限の非等方性が残ることを見出した。

また本年は、宇宙マイクロ波背景輻射(CMB)の偏光に関する研究も行った。CMB光子の温度揺らぎの発展は、Boltzmann方程式により記述されるが、その方程式の非線形項からの寄与を正確に評価することが、観測技術の発展と相まってこれからますます重要になる。他方、私は過去に共同研究者と共に、光子の温度揺らぎに寄与する非線形効果をうまく評価するための方法、「Curve-of-sight」公式の導出を行った。そこで本年は、光子の温度揺らぎのみならずその偏光に対しても、生成される非線形効果を評価できるように、既存の公式の拡張を行った。得られた公式に基づいて、Boltzmann方程式のいくつかの非線形項からの影響を定量的に評価した。
