重力波によるダークマターの新しい探査方法とその実データへの応用

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

試験稼働したKAGRAから得たデータを用いて、電磁波観測により既知の孤立パルサーから放射される連続重力波を探査した。パルサーに関するパラメータは電磁波観測で測定されているため、必要なテンプレートはただ一つである。この場合、全天探査とは異なり、頻度主義者的に最適な手法であるF-statistic法による探索が計算コストの面で可能である。本年度は、解析パイプラインの実装とその動作確認を、KAGRAデータを用いて行った。
また、全天連続波探査におけるライン雑音除去法を新たに考案した。重力波データ解析の分野では、解析の結果、十分大きな信号対雑音比が得られたとしても、それは重力波信号の検出を意味しない。信号対雑音比の計算の際、多くの場合、検出器雑音の統計的性質として定常ガウス雑音を仮定するからである。一般に、検出器には予期しない突発的な非ガウス雑音が現れるため、信号対雑音比による信号候補の選別後、それが重力波起源なのか非ガウス雑音起源なのかを識別する必要がある。とりわけ全天探査では、要するテンプレート数は膨大であり、結果として、周波数空間でライン雑音と適合するテンプレートが劇的に増え、それに伴い誤検出率も増加してしまう。本研究では、信号と雑音の振幅の時間変動に着目し、新たなライン雑音除去法を開発した。全天探査では、計算量削減のため、約1日ごとにF-statisticを計算し、それらをスタックした量を検出統計量として扱う。そこで、1日ごとに測定されるF-statisticの値が、真の信号の場合に期待されるF-statisticの値とどの程度適合しているかを識別基準とした。その際、カイ二乗識別子を導入し、LIGO S5データを用いてその性能を確認した。その結果、ライン雑音で汚れた周波数帯において効率よく誤検出率を抑えられることを確認し、さらに、観測データに疑似的に重力波信号を注入することで、信号検出率が増加することも確かめられた。
