Outline of Annual Research Achievements

プレート沈み込み地震発生帯で起こる物理化学過程や流体圧による断層面弱化, 隆起・浸食・変形過程を理解するための重要な手掛かりとなる岩石の水理・弾性物性と流体の役割を明らかにすることが本研究の目的である. 本研究は,巨大地震・津波断層である分岐断層深部の化石断層として知られる九州四万十帯の延岡衝上断層およびコスタリカ沖沈み込み地震発生帯浅部を主な研究対象として,露頭地質調査・掘削調査により沈み込み帯を構成する堆積物の岩相・構造解析, 物理検層データの解析, 岩石物性測定を行ない,本年度に博士論文としてまとめた.
申請者本人が物性研究者として乗船をした国際深海海洋掘削(IODP)第344次航海の掘削コアを用い, コスタリカ・オサ半島沖中米海溝ウェッジ斜面下部に発達する広域不整合と地震波反射断面から示唆される構造の解釈を行った. 掘削された堆積物試料の物性分布・微細組織・鉱物組成を調べ,埋没続成と流体反応により生成した3種類の沸石を同定し, それらの間隙率充填への効果を定量化することで堆積物の圧密固結プロセスを明らかにした. 沸石が示唆する埋没続成温度により不整合における隆起・削剥過程が検証され,鉱物充填分を補正し統計学的処理を施した間隙率-深度曲線から堆積物の最高埋没深度を求め, 不整合を境とした隆起・削剥・断層変位の最小値・最大値について解析を行った. これらのイベントが発生した年代(微化石)はココスリッジの沈み込み開始とほぼ整合的であり, 海山群の沈み込みがもたらした前弧ウェッジの変形過程であることが検証された. 海山などの凹凸が及ぼす前弧ウェッジの隆起・削剥・沈降・断層変位は,固結した深部の岩石を浅部に露出させ,上盤の固結化が地震発生帯の浅化に寄与すると考えられ,前弧ウェッジの地震発生様式を理解するためには,これら構成岩石の固結過程と沈み込むプレートの凹凸の効果を詳細に調べることが非常に重要である.
