Outline of Annual Research Achievements

東南アジア熱帯雨林に生息するフタバガキ科植物では、２つの異なる果実の形態が観察される。その一つは風散布タイプであり、萼が伸長することにより羽状の器官が形成され、それがプロペラのような役割を果たすことが知られている。そしてもう一方が重力散布タイプであり、萼が伸長しない果実を形成する。これらの２つの果実の形態は、近縁種間においても異なることがあり、両方の果実形態が見られる属も複数存在する。そこで本研究では、これらの果実形態がどのように進化してきたのかを明らかにするため、系統樹を用いた祖先形質の復元を行った。
これまでに報告されているフタバガキ科の葉緑体３遺伝子の配列を用い系統樹を作成し、系統樹に用いた現存種の果実の形態から祖先形質を推定した結果、フタバガキ科の共通祖先で羽状器官を持つ果実がまず進化し、その後独立に何度か羽状器官を失うという進化が起こった可能性が示唆された。また羽状器官が失われた時期については、年代制約に用いる化石情報の不確実性があるものの、同じような時期に独立に生じた可能性を示唆する結果が得られた。
一方で、RNA-seqによる萼での網羅的遺伝子発現解析では、羽状器官を形成しない種で特異的に発現変化する遺伝子群が、フタバガキ科の異なる属間においても共通して得られていた。このことから、羽状器官を失うという進化は独立に起きたものの、羽状器官の喪失には種間で少なくとも部分的には共通の分子機構が関与した可能性が考えられた。
