Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、単一分子と凝縮相の遷移領域である拡張ナノ空間(10-1000 nmの空間)のユニークな物性を利用したイオン分離デバイスの開発を目的としている。平成27年度はランタノイドイオン溶液について、昨年度取り組んだゼータ電位だけでなく導電率や誘電率の測定も行った。ゼータ電位測定の結果、拡張ナノ空間でイオン吸着が抑制されるイオンとされないイオンがあることがわかった。これらの傾向がイオンの水和エンタルピー順に現れていることを踏まえ、拡張ナノ空間のプロトン移動相の水分子とイオンに水和した水分子との関係性が添加したイオン種によって異なったため、このような結果が得られたと考察している。一方、導電率と誘電率の測定結果では、中希土類のイオン溶液においてのみ拡張ナノ空間のユニークな物性が現れた。以上から、拡張ナノ空間では水和エンタルピーによって連続的に物性が変化することと、中希土類を中心として対称的に物性が変化することがあるということをはじめて明らかにした。従来の電気二重層理論では3価のイオンは同じ点電荷として取り扱うことを考慮すると、拡張ナノ空間では電気二重層理論だけでは説明できないユニークな物性が生じていることが明らかとなり、これらの知見は拡張ナノ流体デバイスなどを作製する上で非常に重要な設計指針となる。
また、今後の分離デバイス構築に向けて新しい拡張ナノ流体制御方法の開発に取り組んだ。ドライエッチングや収束イオンビームによって任意の位置にナノ構造体を作製する方法をそれぞれ開発し、ナノ構造体部分で疎水性が増幅する効果を利用して液体のせき止めと進行を制御するバルブの機能を付与することに成功した。この流体制御技術は分離デバイスのみならず他の拡張ナノ流体デバイスに普遍的に適用可能な技術であり、流体制御のための基礎技術として大きく貢献すると考えられる。
