Research Abstract

充填スクッテルダイト化合物は組成により異方的超伝導、重い電子系的振舞、金属-絶縁体転移、多極子転移など様々な異常物性を示すことが知られている。この変化に富んだ物性はこの系の結晶構造の特異性、電子構造の特異性及び希土類4f電子の不安定性に起因していると考えられている。本研究では新充填スクッテルダイト化合物を高圧合成法により作成し、その基礎物性を評価することにより、この系に特有な異常物性を浮き彫りにさせ、新物質開発を通して物性物理学の新分野を開拓することを目的とする。本申請により購入した超高圧合成装置(室蘭工業大学、平成16年2月設置)を用いて、圧力範囲5〜20GPa、温度範囲600〜1600℃において新充填スクッテルダイト化合物の合成を行った。その結果、重希土類元素のHo,Er,Tm,Yb及びYを含む充填スクッテルダイト化合物の合成に成功した。重希土類元素を含む充填スクッテルダイト化合物の試料合成は極めて難しく、合成したバルク試料の一部分だけが単一相となる場合も少なくない、このような試料の微小領域の評価には本申請で購入した湾曲IP X線装置が不可欠であった。また、二元系のCoP_3、RhP_3に希土類元素を部分的に充填した系Ln_xCo_4P_<12>、Ln_xRh_4P_<12>(Ln=希土類元素)の合成も試みた。その結果、いくつかの試料の合成に成功し、超伝導など興味深い現象を見出した。La_xRh_4P_<12>はLaの充填率が100%に近い試料の合成に成功し、充填スクッテルダイト化合物で最も転移温度の高い超伝導体(T_c=18K)であることが分かった。
