Research Abstract

本特定領域研究により米国ユタ州砂漠地帯の約700km^2の敷地に地表検出器約500台と大気蛍光望遠鏡ステーション3ヶ所を設置し、宇宙線空気シャワーをこれら2種類の検出器によるハイブリッド観測を約1年間行った。本計画研究では、このうち大気蛍光望遠鏡の撮像カメラ(データ収集系を含む)の設計、製作と設置を担当し、当初の性能を達成した。すなわち、一次宇宙線のエネルギー、到来方向と空気シャワー縦方向発達曲線の決定精度は、それぞれ10%以下、1度以下と30g/cm^2以下であることが確かめられた。今後5年間観測を継続し、超高エネルギー宇宙線の起源を解明する。
