Research Abstract

本領域研究は平成15年度に発足し、平成19年度に終了した特定領域「グリアーニューロン回路網による情報処理機構の解明」の報告書をまとめることを目的とした。本領域研究は計画班員14名に加えて、平成16年度から平成17年度までの二年間と平成18年度から平成19年度までの二年間に、それぞれ32名および26名の公募班員を加えて展開された。その成果は当初の予測を遙かにこえるレベルに達し、19年度の終了までに原著論文700編以上(IF4.0以上270件、NatureおよびNature group誌に13件を含む)を発表している。特定領域研究のグループとして非常によくまとまり、共同研究が円滑に行われた。また、サマーワークショップの開催により関連分野の研究者との交流を高め、若手研究者の育成にも大きな効果が得られた。国際交流を重視し、公開国際シンポジウムの開催、国内学会への海外からの講演者の招聘、さらに、海外での国際会議におけるシンポジウムやワークショップの企画開催、平成19年度には日米ジョイント会議などを開催してきた。その結果、本研究班で展開されている研究が国際的にもトップレベルにあることを世界のグリア研究者に印象付け、さらに自らもそれを認識するまでに至っている。本年度作成した報告書は、これらの成果とそれに関連する活動をできる限り包括したものでなければならないと考えた。そこで、これまでの多くの成果報告書に見られる、論文の別刷りを羅列した形ではなく、それぞれの班員の研究成果のまとめに加えて、5年間の成果報告会、サマーワークショップ、公開シンポジウム、さらに国内外でのシンポジウムの状況など蓄積してきた資料を整理してアレンジすることを試みた。仕上がった報告書は5年間の本領域の活発な研究活動を余すところなく伝えているとは言えないまでも、グリア研究の重要性とその研究に従事した班員の熱気は十分に伝えることができるものになったと考えている。
