Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to research relationship and characteristics of assessment and planning in social work from theoretical and practical viewpoint. We tried to attain this purpose by investigating assessment and planning in six fields of social work. The fields include of social work with an elderly, children and families, a client in the hospital, a physically handicapped, a mentally retarded and a mental patient. As a result, we came to the conclusion that social workers changed flexibility assessment items depending on client's needs. For that, we didn't find common assessment items among six fields except for fundamental elements which are sex, age, job and so on. In regard to planning, we weren't able to get good results for three years. However, we found many common elements beyond difference of six fields in a process that a client and a social worker work together from assessment to planning. For example, social workers focused on a client's independence (locus of control) and considered how to make the best of his independence in assessment and planning process. In addition, a way of using assessment sheets depended on social workers competency. It follows from what has been said that these characteristics of assessment and planning mean value of social work by collaborating many researchers and practitioners for three years.
