Research Abstract |
In this project, for estimation of bioresources of north Vietnam, we conducted 1. collection of genetic resources in north Vietnam and 2. evaluation pf environmental adaptability of genetic resources, and discussed preservation of bio-diversity in north Vietnam, development of available genetic resources and outlook of sustainable agriculture. 1. Collection of crop genetic resources We visited mountain area of Vietnam, Son La, Dien Bien Hoo, Bac Ha, Sapa, Lao Kai and Kao Ban) in 2004 and 2005. Then, cropping systems of these area were investigated, and we collected llspecies 70 varieties of genetic resources, including paddy rice, upland rice, legumes buckwheat and so. 2. Evaluation of environmental adaptability of crop genetic resources (1) Evaluation of drought tolerance based on the ability of root penetration in rice We investigated drought tolerance based on the ability of root penetration using different type of rice, upland rice of Vietnam and Japonica, and paddy rice of Japonica and Indica. Higher potential of drought tolerance was found in upland rice in Vietnam (2) Evaluation of growth feature and photosynthetic potential of hybrid rice VL20 during vegetative stage Hybrid rice, VL20, has same level yield potential as compared to its parents (103s and R20) though duration to heading in VL20 is 10 days shoter than that in its parents. We investigated growth feature and photosynthetic potential of hybrid rice, VL20,during vegetative stage. In five weeks after sowing, crop growth rate in VL20 was significant higher than that in its parents which indicated that active growth of the beginning stage induced to higher dry matter production during shorter duration. Higher level of photosynthetic rate in VL20 was kept, which suggested that VL20 has feature of slow leaf senescence and superior photosynthetic potential as compared to its parents.
