Research Abstract |
The Database of Barbarian Iconography was continued to be constructed as in the last year. The Data was input referring to the two primary catalogues : W.Raeck, Zum Barbarenbild in der Kunst Athens im 6.und 5.Jahrhundet v.Chr.(1981) ; M.F.Vos, Scythian Archers in Archaic Attic Vase-Painting (1963). From 16.till 24.April Prof.Dr.Florens Felten, the Director of the Institute of Classical Archaeology, University of Salzburg, was invited to Japan by this research project. We investigated the collections in the Greek Roman Museum in Kyoto and participated together in the International Symposium on Ancient Mediterranean World, the Fourth Session "Archaeology and History : Transcending the Great Divide", held 16.till 18.April at the University of Tokyo. A Part of the harvest of this research project is now published : Toshihiro Osada, "Psychostasia-Intervention of Gods in Athenian Vase-Paintings", Bulletin of Art and Design, University of Tsukuba, vol.25(2005) -in Printing. Two further articles will be also published, they were both presented in the international academic conferences : Toshihiro Osada, "Die Interpretation des Nordfrieses vom Siphnierschatzhaus-Ikonographische Analyse im sozial-politischen Kontext" in : 10.Oesterreichische Archaeologentag in Graz (Phoibos ; Wien 2005)-in Printing ; Toshihiro Osada, "Das Sieben Weisen Mosaik" in : C.Mattusch and A.Donohue(ed.), Acta of the XVIth International Congress of Classical Archaeology (Oxbow Books ; Oxford 2005)-in Printing. Due to these productions the aim of the research project was fully attained.
