Research Abstract

In some parts of Hokkaido-Island, Yamato-race called "Wajin" had lived since Muromachi-Age (about 14c). They set up Matsumae-Han the south west of it in 17c and kept through Edo-Age (to 19c). After Meiji-Age they began to reclaim almost of the Island and started govern it.
Many immigrants to Hokkaido were from Tohoku-District. Our research members, four in five, ONO, SENBA, HIRAI, HARA are living in Tokushima-Prefecture. So, we have decided to engross in the study for the immigration from Tokushima-Prefecture to Hokkaido. And a member SUGA living in Hokkaido has participated in our project.
In Hokkaido, there lived many immigration from Tokushima-Prefecture account about 8 percents of all, we investigated their dialects in NIKI, NAGAYAMA, SHIZUNAI, HOMBETSU and other areas. More than one hundred years passed, no immigrants of the first generations lived, and the second generations are a little. The third generations are speaking Tokushima-Dialect in some degree, but the forth generations are speaking Hokkaido-Dialect clearly.
We found the third generations were speaking plain Tokushima-Dialect in NIKI of group immigration, the other hand the third generations were speaking a little in NAGAYAMA of farmer-army immigration.
We could have a good grasp of the situation on immigration to Hokkaido from Tokushima-Prefecture and their circumstances.
