Research Abstract |
1. Investigation of folktale and legend 'a snake as bridegroom' (hebi muko-iri/o-damaki gata) in following regional libraries and the fields : Aomori, Yamagata, Fukushima, Niigata, Toyama, Yamanashi, Gunma, Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime, Kochi, Saga, Nagasaki Prefecture. 2. Making of database in eleven factors on folktale and thirteen factors on legend. Especially on legend, I made database about photos, VTR, and maps of the place and interviews. 3. Quantitative research on these databases to understand spatial relationships between motif, landscapes and the local kingdoms. 4. To know which kingdom had used the myth, this research project mapped the represented place of the legend. 5. To research on historical change of Japanese environmental cognition, this study focused on representation of the 'place' in myth, legend and folktales. Notably, this work concluded that Medieval Japan was turning point of Japanese environmental cognition.
