Research Abstract |
In order to examine some issues concerning support for foreign school children, a fact-finding survey was conducted with teachers from six "Japanese classes". The main results were as follows : (1)The activities of "Japanese classes" performed important roles in supporting foreign school children psycho-socially. (2)Many factors, which include nationality, socio-economical status, purpose to stay in Japan, Japanese ability, the proportion of foreign school children in school, and school system to accept them etc, made big differences among "Japanese classes" responding to foreign school children. On the basis of the findings of the survey mentioned above, a new questionnaire was developed and conducted with teachers who were in charge of 231 "Japanese classes". The average activities of "Japanese classes" were as follows : Each foreign student takes about five hour lesson a week, while extracted from his/her classroom during class. They mainly take Japanese lessons and supplemental lessons individually in subjects like math and science. In addition to these survey researches, the psycho-education program for foreign students was developed and implemented in the Japanese class for Chinese students. Through various statistical analyses, it was suggested that this program had some effect.
