Research Abstract

The aim is this study is to examine the three-dimensional structure of the free jets issuing from twin circular nozzles with three cases of nozzle pitch.
In fiscal year 2003:
1) Twin circular nozzles which suit the water tank facility for flow visualization were made from duralumin plates by milling. The values of nozzle spacing were 2, 4 and 8.
2) Illuminating nylon particles by laser sheet light in the x-z plane, it was confirmed that there was no perturbation caused by reverse flow and the flow instability in the region between two circular jets.
3) Using the result of preliminary experiments, the CCD camera and the PIV system were calibrated.
4) Flow images in the x-z plane and the x-y plane were captured with a high speed camera (CCD camera), then the deformation of the vortex ring was observed using these images.
In fiscal year 2004:
1) Twin circular nozzles for the observation of vortex filaments were made from duralumin plates by milling. The values of nozzle spacing were 2, 4 and 8.
2) Flow images in the x-z and x-y planes were captured with a CCD camera using laser sheet light, then the image files were saved on a personal computer.
3) The deformation of the vortex filaments was observed using the images of flow visualization.
4) The summary of a current result was reported at the international conference (The ERCOFTAC International Symposium on Engineering Turbulence Modeling and Measurements-ETMM6 -).
