Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to consider the effects of environmental transition from whole-scale-care system to unit-care-system of nursing homes on residents' living activities and physical motion activities, and on caregivers' workloads. It aims to get architectural data on occupancy type in rebuilding nursing homes for elderly. The results are as follows. 1.For the living location in day time of residents, the ratio of stay in private-space decreased and the ratio of stay in semi-private-space increased. For the living posture, the ratio of lying in the bed decreased and the ratio of sitting on the chair or the wheel-chair increased, but there wasn't apparent change in the ratio of daily activities. 2.The values of physical motion activities of residents measured by the Actigraph were distributed between 0 and 360 num./min., and the individual variability by the ADL of each residents were observed. In comparison of before and after environment transition, there wasn't apparent tendency. 3.For the values of physical motion activities of caregiver, there were hardly the differences, the values between 220 and 280(num./min.) accounted for about 70%, the values between 240 and 260 (num./min.) accounted for about 30% in work time. 4.In the ordinary nursing home, the living-like space which set up by bed rooms worked as living location for the residents with high-care-need.
