Research Abstract |
There is the research of dental resin which made silver ion to be antibacterial substance until now. The silver ion is fixed to the carrier such as zeolite, the carrier is mixed with the resin, and the composite resin is made. The silver ion has not uniformly been dispersed in composite material, and in addition the toughness of the composite resin decrease. The development of antibacterial dental resin using silver meyhacrylate monomer (MAg) as an antibacterial substance was tried. The solubility of MAg in methyl methacrylate (MMA) was examined, and then the mechanical property of the polymer obtained by polymerization of MAg-containing MMA was tested. As a results, MAg was dissolved to MMA in a concentration of 84×10^<-6> mol/l (about 9 ppm). And it was suggested that the concentration was enough for the appearance of antibacterial activity, because the smallest extinction concentration of silver ion for a Escherichia coil is 3〜13ppm. The Compressive and bending strength of the copolymer of MMA and 2-Methacryloyloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (MC) decreased with the content of MC. However MAg-containing resin obtained was transparent colorlessness, and there was no problem in esthetics. The compressive and bending strength of the resin were not significantly different compared with those of PMMA The silver ions in the resin does not dissolve into water. MAg-containing resin can be expected as an antibacterial dental resin.
