Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research was to develop a nursing model of self-management support for children with chronic illness and their families. This model considers characteristics of children's developmental stages, types of illness, and conditions of disease to support children with chronic illness. In this part of research, information technology was used as a tool for supporting children with type 1 diabetes and their family members. Results of this research were shown as follows: 1.Integration and development of research for children with type 1 diabetes. (1)The process of support system and effects of information technology support were examined. Transmission of data of self monitoring blood glucose using a cellular phone was effective to analyze results of self-management for adolescents with diabetes. (2)Investigation of self-management effects and a construction of the nursing standard for management of diabetes camp for children were implemented. (3)The seminars for Ehime-Prefectual Local Certified Diabetes Educator were planned and held to development of education system for diabetes educators. (4)Studies of support for children with type 1 diabetes were integrated and these results were presented as a chairperson speech in the 9th Annual Meeting of Japanese Diabetes Educators and Nurses. 2.Study of support for children with chronic illness and their family members were investigated. (1)Qualitative research were done to examine mothers' psychological transformation and the structures of mothers' developmental process. New ideas of support for mothers of children with chronic illness were pointed out. 3.The information technology support system for children with chronic illness was re-examined and introduced to the new cases. (1)The computer system which provides self management support to families with chronic illness and information of social support was installed in the Family House.
