Research Abstract |
In maternal and child health field, substantial childcare support for mothers throughout the childcare period beginning from the perinatal period, is essential for prevention and early detection of child abuse. The object of this study is to examine each history through their own growing period of mothers who abuse their child or feel stress in childcare, and toidentify the condition of them during their pregnancy, delivery, and childcare period, as well as the care and support they actually received, for the purpose of clarifing desired childcare support in an effective support system. The subjects were the mothers of child abuse cases in which the child consultation center was involved, and the mothers who felt strong stress in childcare, both in Aomori Prefecture. There were 20 abuse cases in which the child consultation center was continuously involved (A group), and there were 26 mothers who felt strong stress in childcare (B group), a total of 46 cases. was 33.0 years old (from 19 years old to 59 years old) for the A group, and 33.5 years old (from 24 years old to 44 years old) for the B group. The physical condition of the mothers during pregnancy was as follows : 8 cases (40%) in the A group and 3 cases (12%) in the B group ; felt sick, and pregnancy was burdensome" : 10 cases (50%) in the A group and 1 case (4%) in the B group ; frequently felt mental unbalance" : 7 cases (38.9%) in the A group and 0 cases (0%) in the B group were always smoking" or sometimes smoking." The rooming-in" condition in the maternity hospital was : immediately after birth" and from next day after birth" for 2 cases (11.0%) in the A group and 19 cases (73%) in the B group. The participation in childcare circles was : no participation" for 14 cases (70%) in the A group and 6 cases (23%) in the B group. Their experience of DV was : experienced" for 14 cases (74%) in the A group and 3 cases (12%) in the B group. Distraction in everyday life during childcare was : none" for 6 cases (30%) in the A group, and 16 cases (61%) in the B group. Consultation with healthcare professionals was : cannot consult easily" and no consultation" for 4 cases (40%) in the A group and 13 cases (72%) in the B group. As can be seen from the above result, the A group and the B group show different profiles as to conditions from pregnancy to the childcare period. This result suggests that the significance of the risk factor of abuse is different for each abuse level, as has long been suggested. Also some important considerations were revealed in the preventive measures of abuse from the perinatal period, early detection of abuse, and support for the mothers. Less
