Research Abstract

We attempted to construct collaboration systems with parents, schools and communities for prevention of lifestyle-related diseases in schoolchildren.
The subjects were fifth-year elementary school students and second-year junior high school students (total 327) in a town of Nagano Prefecture, who underwent physical examination and blood examination in 2003. And 126 of their fathers and 133 mothers were answered about their results of health examinations, and the results were compared with their children's results.
The present findings showed correlations in blood examination, physique and eating habits between schoolchildren and their parents. The correlations are presumably due to their family's lifestyle as well as hereditary factors. On the basis of the health surveys, we tried to prevent lifestyle-related diseases of schoolchildren, in collaboration with children's parents, YOGO teachers and public health nurses. The present approach has advantages for increasing interest in schoolchildren's health, and should be useful for health promotion.
