Research Abstract |
Development and evaluation of a drawing tool that enables user' s reflection A drawing tool that interacts with the user was created as a device for generating artworks. Its characteristic function is to produce a massive quantity of design patterns instantly and quasi-automatically. A user can repeatedly look at design patterns featuring his/her own drawing style, which enables creation and evaluation simultaneously. It has two applications, one is to promote designers and painters to efficiently conceive and draw patterns, the other is to help novice designers with pictorial expressions. This drawing tool contains macro programs that feature drawing styles of historical and modern well-known painters. The user can utilize these macro programs at any time. To demonstrate this function, we created various visual patterns in our artwork "ArtGenome" and displayed them in art galleries as well as in "Current Environmental Art 2004" (Musashino Art University), an exhibition of Institute of Environmental Art and Design. Through these exhibitions, it has been proved that the macro programs which measure and represent painters' drawing styles are useful to realize advanced graphical expressions of highly artistic quality and originality. A "Media Table", in which these programs are installed was produced. With the connection to the Internet, this Media Table enables collaborative drawing among different users. In the future, we will further enhance this system so that communicative drawing is possible.
