Research Abstract

磁場を利用した新規高分子無機複合材料の創製に着手した。その結果、高配向高分子ゲルの作成に成功した。ポリ(γ-ベンジル-L-グルタメート)(poly(γ-benzyl L-glutamate):PBLG)を10.5Tの高磁場中で架橋剤の濃度を変化させて高配向PBLGゲルを合成したところ、ある架橋剤濃度でμmスケールのチャンネルが出現した。光学顕微鏡による高配向PBLGネットワークの観察の結果、高架橋密度のロッド状の高配向PBLGゲル中にμmスケールの直径を持ったチャンネルが数多く存在することがわかった。さらに三次元NMRイメージング法によりμmスケールの直径を持ったチャンネルは円柱軸方向、つまりPBLG鎖のα-ヘリックス軸と平行な方向につながっており、チャンネルキャビティがロッド状のサンプルの軸方向に貫通している様子を三次元的に捉えることに成功し、ロッド状ゲルの側面から500μmの領域にはチャンネルが形成されないこと、平均的なチャンネルの直径が98.99μmであることがわかった。このチャンネルキャビティのサイズを制御し、サブミクロンサイズまで小さくすれば構造色を発するのではないかと考え、ポリマー濃度、架橋剤濃度を変化させゲルの調製を行った。その結果、円柱軸方向、つまりPBLG鎖のα-ヘリックス軸と平行な方向から光を与えると光るゲルを調製することに成功した。それに対して垂直な方向から光を与えても光らないため、構造の異方性がその光学的性質に影響を及ぼしていることがわかった。また、膨潤溶媒を変化させると発光の波長と強度が変化するため、その発光は溶媒と高分子マトリックスとの屈折率の差に由来するクリスチャンセン効果によることがわかった。
