Research Abstract

最終年度となる本年度は、アルミナ多結晶体の焼結過程における緻密化速度の測定結果と、速度論的に得られるアルミナの粒界拡散係数に関し、極微量のカチオン添加の影響と、その起源についての解析を行った。特に、昨年度の結果に基づき、粒界偏析したカチオンが及ぼすイオン結合状態への影響について重点的に解析を進めた。また、昨年度作製した高温炉と特殊試料ホルダー及びインピーダンス測定装置を用いて、ひき続きカチオン添加立方晶ジルコニアの酸素イオン伝導性を調べ、セラミックスの力学特性と焼結性、及び酸素イオン伝導性に及ぼすカチオン添加効果を調べた。これら拡散、イオン伝導及び高温力学特性のデータを基に、粒界ナノ量子構造と力学・電気特性との関連要因を検討した結果、極微量のカチオンは焼結緻密化速度やイオン伝導に大きな影響を与えること、またそれが粒界近傍に偏析したカチオンがもたらすイオン性の変化と相関があることが初めて分かった。こうした結果から、高温力学特性やイオン伝導性といった、高温における原子・空孔拡散が主体的に関与する各種特性の発現には、結晶粒界の様な局所領域における原子間結合力が支配的要因となっており、特にイオン性に注目することで、物質移動の促進や抑制に有効なカチオンを理論的に選定することが可能であることを実験的に示した。
なお本研究で得られた成果の一部は、平成17年10月に開催された国際会議Materials Science and Technology 2005(米国金属協会、米国セラミックス協会等の主催)での招待講演において発表すると共に、国内外の欧文学術誌に論文を投稿した。掲載済みの論文については研究発表一覧を参照されたい。
