Research Abstract

前年度までの研究により,イシダイの稚魚は体長約70mmで学習能力のピークを持つことが明らかになった.本年度は,こうした学習能力の発達に与える環境要因の影響について検討した.イシダイ稚魚を,人工海草や煉瓦ブロック,塩化ビニルパイプなどの構造物のある複雑な環境(エンリッチ環境)で飼育し,単純な環境で飼育した対照区の魚と学習能力を比較した.エンリッチ環境での飼育期間は,A群:50-65日齢(平均体長18-34mm),B群:50-80日齢(同17-58mm),またはC群:90-120日齢(同55-81mm)とした.学習能力の比較には,昨年度に開発したY迷路における報酬訓練の書き込み学習および書き換え学習を基準とした.また警戒の指標についても測定した.その結果,B群の処理区のイシダイ稚魚は,対照区よりも有意に学習能力の高いことが確かめられた.いずれの群の処理区・対照区の個体も,Y迷路における書き込み学習は同じ程度に達成できたのに対し,より高度な学習である書き換え学習において,B群の処理区の魚が優れていた.A群およびC群の処理区については,対照区との学習能力の差は認められなかった.警戒指数については,C群の処理区が対照区よりも警戒心が低く,他では有意な差は認められなかった.今回の実験により,稚魚期の比較的長期(イシダイの場合,50-80日齢,体長17-58mm)にわたって,複雑な環境に棲息することが,その後の学習能力の発達の向上に寄与することが明らかになった.
