Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Respirometry-acceleration experiments: Ten non-autocorrelated repeated measures of oxygen consumption rate (24h per repeated measure) were obtained for eighteen different tri-axial accelerometer instrumented post-absorptive abalone (6 abalone per temperature condition: 9, 13 and 17°C) with a relatively constant body mass. Resting oxygen consumption rate was determined as the lowest mean oxygen consumption rate value calculated, for each individual, within an experimental temperature for each repeated measure (24 h per repeated measure). For each individual at each experimental temperature, mean oxygen consumption rate was calculated as mean value across the entire recording period for each repeated measure and activity oxygen consumption rate was calculated as mean value minus resting value for each repeated measure. Thus, mean, resting and activity oxygen consumption rates were quantitative proxies for daily energy expenditure (DEE), resting metabolic rate (RMR) and activity energy expenditure (AEE; = DEE minus RMR), respectively.
I completed abalone respirometry-acceleration experiments in autumn 2016. I compared my abalone respirometry-acceleration data over a wide range of temperatures with my data for crabs, Carcinus maenas from France.
