Research Abstract |
Development of new time-and space-resolved vibrational spectroscopies The following five new spectroscopic systems were constructed at the Department of Chemistry, the University of Tokyo. 1) Femtosecond time-resolved ultraviolet/visible/near-infrared absorption and fluorescence spectrometer 2) Picosecond time-resolved Raman spectrometer 3) Nanosecond time-resolved infrared/near-infrared spectrometer 4) Multiplex CARS (Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering) microspectrometer 5) Hyper-Raman microspectrometer New findings concerning complex molecular systems, from a molecule to a living cell The new apparatus developed have been applied to many complex molecular systems to obtain the following results. 1) Local structure formation in imidazolium based ionic liquids (The University of Tokyo) 2) Solvation structures of p-nitroaniline by infrared electroabsorption spectroscopy (The University of Tokyo) 3) Discovery of "molecular near-field effect" in resonance hyper-Raman scattering of β-carotene (The University of Tokyo) 4) Ultrafast molecular dynamics in mixed molecular crystals by femtosecond fluorescence imaging (RIKEN) 5) Ultrafast photogeneration and recombination dynamics of electrons in TiO_2 (The University of Tokyo) 6) New mechanism of the hydrogen abstraction reaction by triplet aromatic carbonyls (The University of Tokyo) 7) Structure and dynamics of dendrimers having chromophores to trigger structural changes (University of Tsukuba) 8) Photoinduced electron transfer across a phospholipid membrane (The University of Tokyo) 9) Discovery of the Raman spectroscopic signature of life in living yeast cells (The University of Tokyo) 10) Non-linear theory of structure formation during the cell growth (The University of Tokyo)
