Outline of Final Research Achievements

In order to shed light on the underlying mechanism of living system, systematic study by combining real-world modeling with theoretical approach based on physics have been actively performed. 1) Successful experimental model to realized the spontaneous generation of macroscopic regular motion under chemical non-equlibrium conditions have been demonstrated. 2) Spontaneous emergence of cell-like structure has been reported through simple experimental arrangement under water/water micro phase-separation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

生命体を非平衡開放系での自律的システムと捉え、生命現象の基盤を物理の視点で解き明かすことを目指して研究を推進した。等温系で化学エネルギーによりマクロな自律運動を行う実験系の確立に成功している。将来的に、生物や環境に優しい運動機関の創出につながる可能性がある。また、細胞様の構造が自発的に生成するような実験条件を明らかにすることも発表してきている。今後、生命科学や臨床医学領域のみならず、工学的な応用展開が大いに期待される。
