Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of research is to investigate an effective pronunciation related training for in-service teachers at various school levels in Japan. We examined how an Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-supported pronunciation training program can help teachers improve their pronunciation. An experimental training was conducted for in-service teachers using a pronunciation software developed by the authors. Results highlight significant effects of ICT on pronunciation related teacher training programs and the necessity of developing such programs.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、自身の発音能力に不安を持つことが多い小学校教員や、スキルアップを目指す中学校英語教員を支援するために発音ソフトの開発を行うことを大きな目標としていた。教科指導に加え、学級経営でも多忙な教員が、各自の予定に合わせて発音の練習ができるようにすることを目指した。小学校教員は教職課程において英語関する学習や指導法を学ぶ機会は多くない。また、地方自治体が主催する英語に関する研修も十分でないことが報告されいる。そのため、ICTを活用して多忙な教員でも受講しやすい講習を構築することは、2020年度から小学校英語が教科化された中で重要であると考える。
