Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study attempted the application of remote field eddy current technique to the evaluation of two-phase flows from outside the pipe, especially for the purpose of confirming presence of coolants in the case of a loss of coolant accident. Detailed three-dimensional finite element simulations and experiments revealed, however, high frequency excitation necessary to distinguish water and air makes it difficult to realize remote field phenomena in case of pipes carrying the fluids are made from metals. Furthermore, even the pipes are made from composite materials whose electrical conductivity is much smaller than that of the metals, it was difficult to obtain tomographic images of the two-phase flows with a high spatial and time resolutions as originally expected.
