Outline of Final Research Achievements

We investigated the influence of biomolecules on the migration of actinoids. The tetravalent actinoids of Th(IV) and Pu(IV) were solubilized by complexation with organic compounds released from microbial cells. Flavin analogues as an electron mediator promoted U(VI) reduction to U(IV).

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

微生物活動が放射性核種の移行挙動に与える影響についてはこれまで研究例があるが、不明な点が多い。これまでの研究は微生物細胞表面で起こる現象を対象としていた。これに対して、本研究では細胞外に放出される生体分子によるアクチノイドの移行挙動への影響について明らかにした点において学術的意義が大きい。原子力発電の結果発生する放射性廃棄物の地層処分においては、放射性核種が環境中に漏えいした場合を想定した移行シナリオを評価する必要がある。本研究の成果は、こうした移行シナリオ評価に貢献するものであり社会的意義も大きい。
