Outline of Final Research Achievements

Mobile underwater acoustic communication is still challenging since we have to address several issues (delay spread, Doppler spread, limited space, and limited power), simultaneously. In this project, a new communication engine based on orthogonal signal division multiplexing technique is constructed and tested in actual sea trials. As a result, the constructed underwater acoustic modem can simultaneously address the issues and achieved excellent communication quality.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究の学術的意義は,遅延拡がりやドップラー拡がりの影響が顕著な水中における移動体通信環境を実験により明らかにするとともに,それを克服するために,データを時間-周波数方向に繰り返し送受信する新しい通信方式を確立したことにある.そして,水中において,安定したデータ伝送が実現できることを実証することで,海中IoT基盤(海洋環境や資源に関するビッグデータを収集する仕組み)の実現に不可欠な通信インフラに,新しい選択肢をもたらしたことは,大きな社会的意義を有していると考えている.
