Two manuscripts have been published. Various alterations in mRNA expression were detected in chickens exposed to DDTs in the field, including down-regulation of several avian beta-defensins. A manuscript on these findings is currently at the revision stage of publication.mRNA expression was assessed using qRT-PCR after in vitro exposure of p,p’-DDT in MCF-7 human breast cancer cells. Several genes relating to oxidative stress markers, xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes and transporters were significantly up-regulated after exposure. A manuscript has been submitted for peer-review.Samples from in vivo exposure of chickens to p,p’-DDT underwent further analysis. Liver histopathology did not show significant changes. qRT-PCR of liver samples confirmed altered gene expression in avian beta defensin (AvBD) genes, AvBD1 and AvBD7. Further, metabolomics analysis using hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) revealed many significantly elevated metabolites relating to amino acid metabolism in exposed groups. These results are currently being prepared for journal submission.
