Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Over the last year, I carried out several significant projects and collaborations. First, I developed a system to conduct diagnosis of Parkinson's disease using Virtual Reality. The system is able to detect biomarkers using integrated eye tracking. We tested the system with a group of Parkinson's patients and controls, and were also able to file a patent for the technology. We also conducted several studies on pupil response and we are currently writing the papers to be submitted in the summer/fall. The second project involved a dynamic view expansion system that modulates vergence, translation, or scale for on-demand vision enhancement. These movements were based on head rotation, so that the augmentations were engaged only during search activity. I also gave an invited talk at IEEEVR, which discussed the use of eye tracking for the automated control and manipulation of augmented reality interfaces. Finally, I co-authored a survey paper that reviews state of the art virtual and augmented reality technology related to networking. It discussed current applications, how the new 5G network will affect these applications in the future, and what new applications may be developed as a result.
