Outline of Annual Research Achievements

採用第2年度目に行った、活動銀河NGC 1068の中心200 pc以内の領域において発見された卓越したSiO分子の物理的起源の考察により、AGNのX線卓越領域 (XDR) よりもアウトフローやジェットによる非等方的な強いショックによる可能性が高いことが明らかとなった。そこで、他の近傍銀河のAGNでもXDRの寄与と無関係に同様のSiO分子の卓越が確認されるかどうかを確かめるため、NGC 1068とX線光度が2桁以上小さい近傍銀河NGC 1097に対するALMA望遠鏡によるSiO分子輝線観測を提案し、これは高優先度の提案として採択された。しかし、本年度中に観測が完了せず、次年度前半に完了する可能性が高いため、採用終了後に解析を進めるとともに、次期観測サイクルにおいても引き続き観測提案を行う予定である。
そのため採用第3年目では、これまで同時並行で進めてきた観測時のオフ点 (参照スペクトル) の取得が不要で観測効率の大幅な改善が期待される、周波数変調観測による新しいミリ波サブミリ波分光観測手法 (FMLO法) の開発に注力した。本年度では、(1) 天体観測時に高確率で混入する地球大気分子由来の輝線スペクトルを解析によって分離・除去可能であること、 (2) FMLO法による観測・解析結果が従来のスイッチング法と矛盾ないことを疑似観測 (シミュレーション) と天体観測の両方で確認し、最適な周波数変調の取り方 (周波数変調パターン) の指針を得ること、 (3) FMLO法はスイッチング法に対して単位観測時間あたり約1.7倍の感度、言い換えると約3倍もの観測効率の向上を達成することを実証した。以上より、将来の電波望遠鏡に求められるより高感度・高効率な観測を実現するための開発として、観測手法と解析手法の観点から実質的な感度向上が可能であることを実証した。
