Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、磁性体中のマグノンやフォノンなどの素励起とスピンゼーベック効果(SSE)との関係性を解明することを主たる目的する。本現象の発現メカニズムに対する理解が深まり、SSE素子の熱電変換能を向上させるための指針が得られれば、SSE型熱電変換デバイスの実現及び、今後の環境調和型の発電技術の発展に貢献できると考えられる。
平成29年度の主な成果は、以下の2点である。

(1) フォノン分散を変化させたBi置換YIG (BixY3-xFe5O12)試料における測定により、SSEにおけるフォノン分散関係の持つ役割がより明確となった: 昨年度の研究において、Y3Fe5O12 (YIG)のマグノンとフォノンの分散関係の相対位置関係を反映してSSEに異常なピーク信号が現れることを見出し、この現象は長寿命なマグノン-フォノン混成粒子によって発現していることを明らかにした。本研究では、YIGのフォノン速度を小さくできる Bi置換に伴うSSEにおけるピーク信号の磁場値の変化を系統的に調べた。Bi置換量の増大に伴いピーク信号が低磁場側にシフトするという結果が観測され、この結果が、フォノン分散の変化の観点から解釈できるということを明らかにした。本研究により、SSEにおけるフォノンの持つ役割がさらに明確になり、SSEの効率を改善するという観点においても良い前進となった。

(2) 強磁場・低温下のYIG/Pt接合のXMCD研究を通じて、Ptに非自明な常磁性モーメントが生じていることを明らかにした: Y3Fe5O12-白金Pt接合における強磁場(5 T)・低温(5.5 K)下のXMCD研究により、本条件下でPtに大きな常磁性モーメントが誘起されることを明らかにした。SSEなどのスピン流現象はすべて界面でのスピン変換を利用しており、ここで得られた知見は今後、スピン変換現象を理解する上で有用であるといえる。
