Outline of Annual Research Achievements

下部マントルの最主要鉱物であるケイ酸塩ペロブスカイト(Mg,Fe)SiO3)(鉱物名:ブリッジマナイト)はMg2+、Fe2+といった二価のイオンとSi4+の4価のイオンから主に構成されているが、3価のイオンであるAl3+も多量に固溶できることが知られている。特にパイロライトモデルでは、下部マントル中のブリッジマナイトは深さに伴い、ブリッジマナイトの組成が大きく変化することが報告されている(Irifune et al., 2010)。特に、3価のイオンであるAl3+の固容量が30~40GPa付近において、最大値を持ち、この圧力は、地球物理学的観測により報告されている粘性率の極大の深さと一致していることから、Al3+の固溶がブリッジマナイトの粘性に大きな影響を与える可能性が高いと考えられているが、それを示す実験的証拠は未だ示されていない。
そこで、本年度は、下部マントル条件でのその場歪ー応力測定変形実験を行うことで、ブリッジマナイトの粘性率のAl2O3濃度依存性を明らかにすることを目的とした。
BL04B1に設置されているD-DIA型高圧発生装置SPEED Mk.IIを用いて、25GPa、1573-1673 KでのAl2O3を固溶する(3wt.%)の応力―歪同時その場観察変形実験を行った。
下部マントルの温度条件はおよそ1900 K程度あると考えられており、本研究結果を下部マントル温度条件まで単純に温度外挿するとAl2O3の固溶によって、ブリッジマナイトの粘性率はAl2O3を含むことによって0.5桁程度大きくなることが明らかとなった。これは、地球物理学的観測から得られている粘性率の極大に寄与し得るが、Al2O3のみで説明できないことが明らかとなった。
